This week was the big one. On Monday my GP signed me back on to be fit for work, with the stipulation that I engage in a phased return. On Wednesday morning, I had a teleconference with my line manager and he asked me to submit a proposal for a return to work plan which will see me gradually build up my hours over the next 8 weeks until I return full time in the week commencing 23rd April. Coincidentally, this is also my last week with the company - poor timing on my part, that one!
Welcome To McDonald’s - always loved this song :)
Love is…
I do love The Goodies…a mate made me think of this clip earlier when discussing his retirement plans :)
I feel like a great weight has been lifted from my shoulders. Actually make that a massive weight, maybe even an Olympic sized weight. After all the anxiety, fears, mood swings, manic and depressive episodes, there is now an ever growing light at the end of what has seemingly been a very long tunnel. I have been made redundant and, boy, am I ever pleased about it.
Over the weekend, I had cause to get angry on Twitter. On Saturday night, there was a bit of a slanging match between Stan Collymore and Jon Gaunt, one a former footballer, the other a “social commentator”. I follow both, so was privy to the whole conversation, the details of which are not really relevant to this blog post. What is important is that it led to a heated discussion between myself and another user on removing the stigma of mental illness. You see, I follow Stan because of his very public comments about depression, and his own suffering. He has done a lot of good for the cause, in my book, along with celebrities like Stephen Fry, Tricia Goddard and Jo Brand, who actually used to be a mental health nurse.
I absolutely love this moment from Red Dwarf. One of the funniest ever in my book, and certainly how I feel sometimes!
Didn’t think I’d be writing another post so soon about the Falklands but there you go. For the last couple of days, I’ve been sparring with someone on Twitter about the sovereignty dispute. There has been lots of debate on the internet, as you would expect, and the words “imperialism” and “colonialism” have appeared on more than one occasion to describe the British stance, even though the two are contradictory. He is of the opinion that the islands should be returned to Argentina because “it makes no sense for one country to claim it owns somewhere on the other side of the world”. He has further argued that all remaining British Overseas Territories should be decolonised as they are “the last remnant of the British Empire”. Interesting perspective perhaps, though rather wide of the mark.
This one’s for all the IT staff out there…
